Grandma Hess

Yesterday was a tough day. My Grandma Hess, my last living grandparent and my mom's mom, passed away. This one has been tough. While she was old, she hasn't been sick, so this was pretty unexpected. I miss her.

I'm sure she's having a wonderful family reunion on the other side and is happy and at peace. Love you, Grandma.

Here are some pictures I took of her last New Year's Day. One is of Grandma with my mom, me, and my kids, and one is of Grandma with her children.

New Year's Resolutions

This is always the time of year to set new goals. The problem I have is this pregnancy. I'm in the third trimester and and having a hard enough time just keeping up on the house work and the kids. However, I have a few goals in mind that I need to figure out how to accomplish.

1) loose all baby weight in 6 months after the baby comes (I've given myself a longer term goal on this one because I think lack of sleep for the first few months is going to make it challenging)

2) CPA exam study. This one has been really tough for me. I have a hard time finding consistent time and energy to accomplish this.

3) Temple once a month. I'm giving myself a couple month's grace when the baby comes. If I end up on bed rest (highly probable), then February/March are probably also out. Oye!

4) Daily personal scripture study/prayer. We do pretty good with the family stuff, but I have a hard time being consistent with my own efforts.

5) Photography. I really want to continue to get better at this one. I think I'll set a goal to take a minimum of one great nature shot (calendar worthy) a month. I would LOVE to be able to start selling these as limited edition prints, but I have no idea how to market such a thing or where to sell it.

6) Piano. Another personal development area. I'd like to get back into practicing. Ideally, an hour a day. Realistically, 3 hrs a week.

7) Kids. I'd like to spend more time with the kids doing more structured activities. I'm trying to plan out a topic that we can learn about each month and include a fun field trip associated with it. I'd also like to just spend more play time with them.

So, now, the hard part is actually following through with these. I'm hoping that after the baby starts sleeping through the night, I'll have enough energy to start doing these things. Wow. I feel overwhelmed.

First Julia Childs Recipe

I made my first Julia Childs recipe for dinner tonight--chicken breast with cream sauce, risotto, and marinated artichoke hearts. We liked it, and Aiden even had seconds on the risotto (of course I DID leave out the onions). :)

Holiday Cards and Letters

I LOVE to get Christmas cards. They are such a great way (for those not on FB) to stay in touch, at least once a year. I love to hear how people are doing, see their kids growing up, etc. Sometimes, we hear sad news, and mostly happy, and I'm glad to know what is happening in my friends' lives.

Thoughtful Husband/Favorite Gift

A few weeks ago, Rich and I watched Julie and Julia. It had some cute parts and we like to cook. Well, I thought I knew everything I was getting for Christmas because I picked it out. But, for Christmas Rich surprised me with the Julia Child's cookbook that the movie was about. I was impressed by both his creativity and his thoughtfulness. I would never have bought it, so it was fun to get something that I love that I never expected to get.

Holiday Decorations--How Long?

How long do you keep your Christmas decorations up? I usually like to keep them up until Jan 1 or 2, but this year, I took them down as soon as we got home from Idaho. I really felt the need to get organized and to find a home for all the fun Christmas presents we got.

Christmas Day

So, I'm a little behind on my blog update. We went to Idaho for Christmas, and things were a little hectic.

Christmas Day was really fun. When the kids finally woke up, we enjoyed a breakfast of cinnamon rolls, and when Aunt Janae arrived we spent the morning opening presents, and I must say the kids brought home the loot. I'm going to have to clean out all their old toys to make room for their new ones.

In the afternoon, the boys went hunting and the girls hung out at home with the kids. We had a yummy turkey dinner and then played games and talked until late. Here are some pictures of the gift opening:

And, the big news of the Holiday is that my SIL, Janae, is engaged. Congratulations Janae!
